Maternity Reflexology

Maternity Reflexology helps both Mum and baby during this very special and exciting time. During the nine months of pregnancy, a woman's body goes through enormous physical changes as a new life grows inside. While some women are able to adjust to the physical and hormonal changes easily, for others, this can be a long period of discomfort and fatigue with nausea, headaches, backache and other conditions associated with pregnancy, taking away the joy and excitement of being pregnant and expecting a baby.

Reflexology is one of the safest, most supportive therapies for pregnant women and, sensitively applied, is excellent during pregnancy and birth, both for the mother and her baby. Research has shown that regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy can improve the chances of a shorter, less intense labour; recovery of mother and baby is quicker and both are calmer and more relaxed which enhances bonding and breastfeeding.

Reflexology has shown to be excellent in treating common conditions and maintaining balance during the rapidly changing experience of pregnancy, and can help with:

  • morning sickness/nausea

  • headaches

  • pain & discomfort

  • stress & anxiety

  • fatigue

  • backache

  • digestive problems/constipation

The focus for me as a reflexologist is to balance and harmonise the whole being in preparation for birth help to make your pregnancy a more enjoyable and memorable experience.

Can reflexology induce and shorten labour?

Your baby will arrive naturally when it is ready, however working certain points on the feet can help to encourage your body to prepare for labour. Many women seek the help of a reflexologist if they go over their due dates and want to avoid a hospital induction.

You are unlikely to go into labour straight away but some mums to find that they go naturally into labour within 24 to 48 hours. Reflexology will support the body and promote relaxation at a time when maybe you start to feel a little anxious.

Post Pregnancy

After pregnancy you may be suffering from a change or drop in your hormones, experiencing exhaustion and a lack of sleep. You may be recovering from difficult labour, or feeling totally overwhelmed especially if it’s your first baby. Reflexology is a deeply relaxing and calming treatment that can help restore your emotions, sleep patterns, and help with breastfeeding. It is also very important to look after yourself, whilst giving you some valuable time to yourself, or feel free to bring your newborn with you.

A reflexology treatment can be wonderful at this time as well as helping with other conditions associated with the postnatal period.

  • helps lactation

  • post-epidural pain

  • helps recovery following c-section

  • calms and relaxes mother & baby

  • balances the body after the birth
