The Skin Benefits of Vitamin E

Vitamin E oil acts as both a nutrient and as a powerful fat-soluble antioxidant, it can rejuvenate skin and overall health. It has been used in skin care products for so long that we tend to forget it has incredible properties, especially when combined with other antioxidants. It’s a great cleansing agent and it perfect for getting ridding of dirt, grime and other impurities while simultaneously maintaining your skins oil balance.

How much vitamin E do you need?

It’s likely that you’re getting enough vitamin E through your food unless you are on a very low-fat diet. However, smoking, air pollution, and even exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun can deplete your body’s stores of the vitamin.

According to the National Institute of Health, teenagers and adults should get about 15 mg of vitamin E a day. Pregnant women should get the same, and breastfeeding women should up that to 19 mg.

It’s not necessary to purchase products containing Vitamin E, or separate capsules and oil to add to your daily regime, but they are available if you feel you need a boost.

It’s found naturally in many foods, including:

  • vegetable oils, especially wheat germ, sunflower, and safflower oils

  • nuts and seeds

  • avocados and other fats

Lets’ take a look at some other benefits of Vitamin E oil.

Helps Neutralise Free radicals

Free radicals in the body are oxygen molecules that lose an electron, which makes them unstable. These unstable molecules interact with cells in the body in a way that can cause damage. As the process snowballs, cells can be damaged and become vulnerable to disease.

Free radicals can be created by our bodies as we age, or by everyday factors like digestion or exercise. Exposure to external things like:

  • smoking

  • environmental pollutants

  • radiation

also causes them. Antioxidants neutralise free radicals by donating the missing electrons that destabilise them. Antioxidants can be found in many foods, such as those containing vitamin E as well as berries, beans and apples.

Improves Hydration and nourishes the skin

Vitamin E rejuvenates and restores dehydrated skin as it restores the lost moisture, and this is why it works best for dry and damaged skin. Vitamin E makes the nerves stronger and helps to nourish the skin from within.

Helps to prevent signs of ageing

By reversing premature skin ageing and preventing wrinkles, vitamin E can improve your skin so you look youthful for longer. Lines come from age, free radical damage, improper skin care, and poor lifestyle choices such as smoking and excessive drinking.

Vitamin E oil can prevent the formation of wrinkles by blocking free radical damage. It then treats fine lines and wrinkles by boosting collagen production, a connective tissue that keeps skin elastic. It can also support new skin cell growth and speed up cell regeneration.

Reduce stretch marks, heal scars and acne

In this case, it might be worth investing in some good quality vitamin E oil. Apply the oil to the skin to increase the level of nutrients in the skin tissue. To reduce the appearance of stretch marks, apply it regularly to the area, and rub gently.

Vitamin E oil can also help to regenerate new skin cells and can lighten scars found on the face.

Can improve skin texture

It lightens dark spots, moisturises the skin, and hydrates to improve the look and feel of your skin, and works a treat on dark circles.

Brown spots appear over time with free radical damage and poor liver function. Vitamin E oil prevents and repairs free radical damage. It can help to lighten and smooth rough skin by lubricating cell membranes and encouraging cell regeneration.

For dry skin, eat more avocado's. They are rich in Vitamin E and monounsaturated fats which keep your skin in good condition.
